You don't have to practice what you preach, just preach what Jesus practices - Victor King
" For I do not understand my own actions [ baffled, confused]. I do not Practice what I wish, but I do the very thing that I hate [which my moral instinct condemns ........ For I fail to Practice the good deeds I desire to do, but the evil deeds that I do not desire to do are what I am ever doing " - Romans 7:15 & 19
" Practice what you preach " is a very famous quote or phrase that we Christians like to use. People have been using it for many years. Its sounds very good, helpful, noble and righteous but God does not want us to eat from the tree of knowledge of Good and evil but HE wants us to eat from the tree of Life. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth and the Life.
Least did we know that this "good and famous" phrase is one of the tools and a loop hole for Condemnation. Christians have been using this phrase to condemn and attack other Christians. We condemn ourselves when don't practice what we preach or share. The devil loves to use this to condemn us by reminding us that we are not practicing what we are preaching or sharing.
Romans 8:1 tells us that there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Practice what you preach is a form of Law ( self righteous )
Some of us think that if we say that Jesus is Gracious then we better gracious also because we better practice what we preach or if we say that Jesus kind and gentle then we also must start being gentle and kind because we have to practice what we preach.
If we say that Jesus provides all our needs then we must start giving to the poor because we have to practice what we preach. It becomes a law. A life of doing and works. And if we can't practice what we preach, we condemn ourselves, the devil condemns us and people also condemn us.
There are some people who runaway or backslide away from Christianity. They find it so hard and burdened because they have to practice everything they preach which is impossible.
For example, if we were to share or tell someone about trusting God and not doubting. We tell them to lean on His Grace and cast our cares to Jesus. Lets say a few days later we ourselves are going through a hard time in life and we are trusting in God. We don't see the breakthrough's that we want and slowly we feel discouraged.
Somewhere along the way, we started to doubt God during our trials. Now, we feel condemned for not trusting God and doubting. The devil comes along and tells us that we are not trusting God enough and doubted His goodness.
Lets say our doubting is so evident that even the people around us can see it. Some of them might say that we are not practicing what we are preaching. We are so hypocritical. Now, we feel so condemned that we don't want to speak about Jesus.
There are Christians who don't want to speak or share about Jesus because of this "famous phrase". They fear that if they go around telling people that Jesus is good, loving, gracious, merciful, kind and forgiving, they also must be like that because they better practice what they preach. They think they must be perfect like Jesus then they can preach about Jesus.
Some of them think that they must have it altogether then they will preach or share about Jesus. For example, we might think that until we become very rich then we will start telling everyone about God's prosperity so that people will say that he practices what he preaches.
There are many area's in our lives that we are preaching or sharing to other people about Jesus that we are not practicing. We know that we know that we don't practice many things that we preach No condemnation for that.
Lets look at the word Practice
Practice - the action or process of performing or doing something
to apply, to carry on, to do, to engage in, to execute, to follow, to fulfill, to function, to observe, to perform, to pursue, to undertake, to work at, to accomplish, to demonstrate
The Only person that I know who practices what He preaches is JESUS. You just preach what Jesus practices and as you are preaching about Him, you would want to practice it without any efforts. The practicing part will be added to you.
But let him who boast, boast in this: that he understands and knows Me [recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, who practices loving-kindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord - Jeremiah 9:24
Jesus practices love, mercy, grace, goodness, forgiveness of sins, health, healing and many more. Don't feel condemned. You don't have to practice what you preach. Jesus will effortlessly make you want to practice it because only He does the works in you and through you. As Christ is so are you in this world. You will become like Him. It will take time.
We are Anointed Ones. Anointed with Grace to practice. You don't have to but you would want to. He will make you to do it. God makes it easy, men makes it hard.
As you are preaching about what Jesus practices and as the word goes forth, your life is being refreshed. As you refreshing others, God is refreshing you.
There are scriptures in the New Testament that tells us to practice. Remember, the bible is not for us to follow. It is there for us to know who we are in Christ, what we have in Christ and what Christ can do through us. The practicing part is His part. He practices it through you. Jesus does the work. You lean on His Grace and let Him do the work in you and through you, amen!
Don't give room for condemnation because of this phrase " Practice what you preach"
Make room for Grace. Preach what Jesus practices. Its all about Jesus and His Works. Not yours. I'm sure the Holy Spirit does a better job. Relax and enjoy His Grace. Amen!
