" I don't understand myself. I want to do what is right but I do not do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate.
When I do the thing I do not want to do, it shows me that the Law is right and good. So I am not doing it. Sin living in me (flesh) is doing it.
I know there is nothing good in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do good but I do not. I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I am always doing the sinful things I do not want to do.
If I am always doing the very thing I do not want to do, it means I am no longer the one who does it. It is sin that lives in me (flesh)
This has become my way of life: When I want to do what is right, I always do what is wrong.
My mind and heart agree with the Law of God (doing right) But there is a different law at work deep inside of me that fights with my mind. This law of sin holds me in its power because sin is still in me (flesh).
There is no happiness in me! Who can set me free from my sinful self? "
- Romans 7:15-24 (New Life Version)
Many of us believers went through this problem. What we don't want to do, that's what we keep on doing. What we are suppose to do, we don't do. Many of us are trying to stop sinning (by ourselves) but the truth is that's not our job. Its Jesus' job. Jesus is the rightful opponent to sin, NOT us. He is the only Savior, not us.
I thank my God that the bible says that ' as CHRIST is so are we in this world '.
As ' the Anointed One is, so are we in this world ' and that's why we are called Anointed Ones ( Christians). We are Anointed with the Forgiveness and Remission of Sin! We are Anointed with the fruits of the Spirit! We are Anointed with God's Righteousness!
It didn't say ' as Jesus (Savior) is so are we in this world ' because if it was said like that then we all will start Saving ourselves and other people. Trying to fight our own battles and the power of sin by our self effort (Law)
We are Christians not " Jesusians ". We are Anointed Ones not Saving Ones. We are not good ones or moral Ones. We are Anointed with the Holy Spirit to be good, do good and talk good. The Holy Spirit will make us good and I'm sure the Holy Spirit does a better job, amen.
An Anointed One will rest and let God do the work.
"For those whom He foreknew, of whom He was aware and loved beforehand. He also destined from the beginning...to be molded into the image of His Son and share inwardly His likeness." (Romans 8:29, Amp)
When Christ is in you, in due time you will become more like HIM. You don't have to try. You have no choice but you will become like Christ so no worries about it. Galatians 2:20 says that it is no longer you who live but the Anointed (Christ) lives in you.
Don't stop sinning (by your own effort). Stop (the dominion of) Sin by the Grace of God. The Finish work of Jesus.
Many Christians know that sin is bad and so they try to stop it or control it by themselves but the more they try to stop sinning the more they get stuck with that particular sin. Most of them suffer from great condemnation within and there are some even live secret lives (in sin) thinking that sin has dominion over them.
Now sin is the sting of death, and sin exercises its power upon the soul through the abuse of the Law - 1 Corinthians 15:56. The more you try to control the manifestation of sin by the law of do's and dont's, the more you fail and the more sin becomes active. Sin exercises its power. Paul was fed up of this system (law) and that's why he asked someone to save him (Romans 7:24)
Only the Jesus can save us because ONLY Jesus died for our sins. Jesus is the Grace of God.
The bible says in Romans 6:14, For sin shall not! exert dominion over you, since you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God's favor and mercy] and Romans 6:18 says that having been set free from sin, you have become the servants of righteousness of conformity to the divine will in thought, purpose, and action.
Law is you trying to stop the power of sin by yourself . Grace is Christ has stopped the power of sin! through His death on the Cross and Gave you His Life. Christ has conquered the power of sin. You don't have to try to stop sinning by yourself.
So how do we stop Sin?
We stop Sin in its power by hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ
The bible says, It is that purpose and grace which He now has made known and has fully disclosed to us through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, Who annulled death and made it of no effect and brought life And Immortality to Light through the Gospel (Good News - (2 Timothy 1:10)
If you noticed in the New Testament that before any healing or deliverance could take place, Jesus preaches or shares the Gospel first. He Wants them to know the Good News about Him first before they could receive anything.
Paul says in Romans 1:16 that he is not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God's power working unto salvation [for deliverance] to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Have you notice it is the Gospel of Christ. It's not the Gospel of men. Mark 1:1 says that it is the Good News of Jesus Christ.
So what is the Good News of Jesus Christ?
Are you ready??!!!!
" I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more!!! " -- Hebrews 8:12 (Young's Literal Translation)
How come God does not remember? Because of the Finish work of Jesus Christ. He punished our sins on the body of Jesus Christ. Jesus died for all our sins. Jesus took our place of the condemnation, guilt and the punishment of sin. Jesus died to release us from the power and the dominion of sin.
We are not subject to the power of sin. Romans 3:9 tells us that we have already charged that all men, both Jews and Gentiles, are under sin and subject to its power and control. Have you notice it says Jews and Gentiles are under the power of sin? It didn't mention the Church or believers.
Those under the law and unbelievers are under the power of sin. But the Church or Christians are NOT under the power of sin because Jesus died for our sins! And we are under His Grace and that's why sin cannot have dominion over us.
Blessed! happy! and to be envied! is the person of whose sin the Lord will take no account nor reckon it against him. (Romans 4:8)
The more you hear how Christ died for all your sins. The more that particular sin goes off. Even in the midst of that sin, you can thank God for dying for that sin on the cross and He does not count it against you. It may take 1 day or 2 years but keep knowing that He died for that sin and before you know it, its GONE! or it has become less active.
It could be smoking, alcohol, anger, lust, jealousy, insecurity, fear, worry, doubts, unbelieve or any other kinds of sin. Just know that He died for it. Don't try to stop it by yourself. Cast it to Him. The Holy Spirit will help you. You only can overcome sin by Grace. It is in the finish work and the blood.
And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the lamb
Revelations 12:11.
When you have sinned, you fall.
But do you know where you have fallen when you fell? Yes!!! You have fallen into His Grace.
Would you want to stop sinning by yourself with self effort and still struggle with that sin and put on a behavior modification? or Do you want to let Christ by His Grace Help you out of that sin and have a true life transformation?
You are under Grace and not under law. For no person will be justified (made righteous, acquitted, and judged acceptable) in His sight by observing the works prescribed by the Law. For the real function of the Law is to make men recognize and be conscious of sin
Romans 3:20
Just understand that if you have to stop sinning by yourself then Jesus did not have to come and die. Cast that sin to Him. You cannot stop or control sin by yourself.
You don't have to be sin conscious. Just be Jesus conscious, even in the midst of sin. And see that sin gone in Jesus Name
